A Spirit Junkie’s Honest Review of Ramit Sethi’s Zero To Launch Course

Feel like you’re capable of so much more but don’t exactly know what that means or how to get there?

Before joining Ramit Sethi’s Zero to Launch course, I suffered from what I call “general dream paralysis”.

It’s when you have such general hopes & dreams that you don’t know where to start, so you become paralyzed, and you do one of four things:

  1. Never take action because you don’t know what action to take.
  2. Take action but everything you try yields little to no results.
  3. Keep dreaming for that “some day” to happen (because dreaming is the only thing you can control).
  4. Give up your dream and succumb to mediocrity.

For example, one of my big general dreams was to have FREEDOM to do what I want when I wanted. I had a clear picture of what freedom wasn’t. It wasn’t having to ask permission to take a vacation. It wasn’t having to call in and pretend to be sick on a day when I just wanted to lounge in my pajamas and netflix binge for no other reason than I felt like it. I didn’t know what freedom actually looked like, I only knew what it didn’t look like. I dreamed of the idea of freedom.

I also yearned for a sense of PURPOSE. I wanted to know that I was valuable, that I could contribute something meaningful to society and make a real difference in other people’s lives. I had a general idea of what I was passionate about (writing, inspiring others, making people laugh, etc) but I didn’t know how to turn that into a business that would help others and pay my bills. And I certainly didn’t know what it actually felt like to live your life truly on purpose because I didn’t really know what my purpose was.

It’s frustrating to know in every cell of your body that you are capable of so much more than the life you’re living but you don’t know how to change it.

It’s heartbreaking to feel deep down that you have something valuable to offer the world but you don’t know what it is or how to express it.

It’s downright soul crushing to try your absolute best, give it everything you’ve got to make your dreams come true only to be back in the same exact chair, behind the same exact desk, under the same fluorescent lights, day after day, month after month, year after year, at the corporate office every Monday morning at 9am. Dreaming hopelessly, once again, of freedom and purpose.

That was me, before Zero to Launch.

I had tried other business courses, including Marie Forleo’s B-School prior to Zero to Launch. And while it was invaluable in giving me the confidence to commit to myself and my business, and changed my mindset from a dabbler who liked to blog occasionally to an actual entrepreneur serious about building a profitable online business, it wasn’t until I signed up for Zero to Launch that everything shifted for me.

If you don’t already know, I’m a Highly Sensitive Person. This means that my emotional well runs really, really deep. So deep in fact that sometimes it scares me.

While I have an extremely analytical mind (part of the trait of high sensory processing sensitivity), it’s really my heart that runs the show.

And my heart likes chasing shiny glittery objects, the glitterier the better! (Yes, I know it’s not a word but it’s my website and I’m sticking to it. This is one of the things I learned in ZTL, by the way. I’m the CEO of my own company, I can do whatever I want!)

In fact, I chased so many shiny glittery objects, I ended up like a butterfly flittering about here and there with no real value, going from one shiny object to the next and never getting any real results, for myself or my clients (not that I had any back then). Throughout my many attempts to start a business over the years, I chased one tactic to another, one course to another, and one idea to another. I had so many passions, I tried following all of them. Why limit yourself, I thought. I’m a spirit junkie, I don’t believe in limits. I follow Gabrielle Bernstein, Oprah and Deepak Chopra. And they all tell me the Universe is boundless and gives you everything you desire. Right?

But no sooner would I get one passion started then another would grab me, yank me around and force me to follow it. And I’d leave behind the last one (along with the thousands of dollars I’d spent on getting it started) thinking the new one was “the one”.

Here are the many businesses I’ve started and tactics I tried (all unsuccessfully):

  1. A blog with daily inspirational passages where I tried to sell affiliate products and run sponsored google ads
  2. A necklace and book gift set in retail stores
  3. A film production company
  4. An e-book on how to find your soulmate using the Law of Attraction
  5. A facebook page where I posted multiple inspirational photos & quotes every day to get likes and ultimately to opt-in for a freebie and then be funneled into an affiliate sale of someone else’s product (to date, it has over 4K followers and not one sale).

Over the last decade and more, I’ve tried so many different ideas and spent so much money, in the tens of thousands, trying to get a viable business up and running. Putting in exhausting hours, sacrificing time with family and friends and also doing the internal work of allowing myself to receive, believing in my worth and visualizing.

But after so many failed attempts, and seeing everyone else around me taking the same courses, doing the same tactics and succeeding greatly, I started to question myself and think maybe I’m not cut out for this entrepreneurial thing after all, maybe I don’t have what it takes. Maybe I’m just fooling myself thinking that I can create the life I truly want and be happy. Maybe that’s for other people, not me.

The worst thought I had was maybe what they told me when I was little – that I’m not good enough –  maybe they were right.

I was crushed.

What Zero To Launch Did For Me

Zero to Launch changed all that for me. I truly believe that it’s a life course cleverly disguised as a business course. I thought I was signing up to learn how to build a business, but in fact, what I really signed up for was a course on how to build ME.

On a personal level, it taught me:

  1. I get to have a say in the life I want to live
  2. I get to create exactly the kind of life I want
  3. I get to be my own boss, I’m not just the CEO of my own business, I’m the CEO of my own life
  4. I am good enough
  5. I can do it (not just saying or thinking these words but actually knowing them)
  6. If I don’t have what it takes right now, I can learn it

It taught me that once you have a proven strategy, you can follow your heart all you want – as long as you stick to the strategy. No, they don’t exactly say this in the course, but that’s what I took away from it. In fact, they don’t talk about following your heart, embracing your emotions or aligning your vibration to your desires or any of those soft, fluffy things people like me like to hear.

What they do talk about is psychology and mindset and why you’re compelled (mostly subconsciously) to do things certain ways and they offer practical solutions to move out of what keeps you stuck and into what you really want.

ZTL gave me a structured, step by step strategy to follow with a very clear, very specific path toward my very general dream of freedom and purpose. I’m no longer flittering about airy-fairy from one thing to the next, I have a clearly defined roadmap and all I have to do is follow it.

It’s as if one day Ramit appeared and said, “Here, you silly spiritual butterfly. This is a map toward your dreams. Follow these steps exactly, don’t meander off course, and you’ll get there.” And as if that wasn’t enticing enough, he added, “and if you don’t, I’ll give you your money back.”

The way I see it, I live with my head in the clouds (my woo-woo spiritual & emotional side – which I really enjoy) and I need someone to plant my feet on the ground (my human, every day side) and tell me how to achieve my sky-high dreams. It’s the perfect combination of a dreamer and a doer.

I had big dreams and wandered around aimlessly for years hoping for something to finally “click”. I really wanted to believe in the fairy tale of “if you build it, they will come,” and so I kept building, trying different things. But no one came. It’s such a lovely, faith-affirming idea and it makes me feel good to believe that that’s all you have to do, similar to the other romantic idea of “Do what you love and the money will follow.” I feel wonderful when I think that these could be true. And even writing this now, there’s a part of me that still believes them on some level. But on a very real, earthly level, where my bank account exists, the proof is in the numbers.

And numbers don’t give a damn about beliefs or passion or dreams. Numbers just tell the truth. Whether I believe or not, 2 plus 2 equals 4. Period. I can visualize, hope and pray all I want for it to be different, but in the end 2 plus 2 still equals 4.

Here are my numbers BEFORE and AFTER Zero to Launch.

But I’m still a touchy feely gal at heart, and even though the numbers are great, nothing - absolutely NOTHING - beats how I feel when I get these emails and messages from my readers, students and clients:

These are just a small fraction of the messages I receive daily. I can’t even begin to express in words how much this means to me. This could not have been possible without everything I learned in Zero to Launch, and especially the lessons about how to offer amazing value and service to your audience.

If you’re thinking of signing up for Zero to Launch and what I’ve written above resonates with you, I’m happy to connect and answer any questions you may have. I’m not an affiliate of the program so I won’t make any money for recommending it. I truly believe this is a life changing course and if I can help you move closer to the fulfilling life burning inside you, it would be my pleasure to help.
